Paddy Power and Skybet have cut the odds on the Portuguese centre-back rejoining his old club.
Bookmakers have shortened the odds on Jose Fonte making a sensational return to Crystal Palace this January. Both Paddy Power and Skybet have slashed their odds on the Saints captain moving to South East London. Fonte became a firm fan's favourite during his time at Selhurst Park and made over 80 appearances during a three year stint. Skybet are now 5/1 from 25/1 whilst Paddy Power are now just 5/2 from 15/2 just 24 hours ago.
However, Old Trafford remains the most likeliest destination for the 33-year-old who handed in a transfer request last week. Both Bet Victor and William Hill are just 5/4 for the European Champion to move to Manchester United.
Fonte's future looks dependent on which club will blink first this January with rumours linking a number of central defenders to different clubs. As well as being linked with Fonte, Manchester United are also rumoured to be lining up a big-money move for Benfica's Swedish international Victor Lindelöf. If this move were to happen this in turn could step-up Benfica's interest in Fonte. Southampton meanwhile have been strongly linked with Liverpool's Mamadou Sakho as a potential replacement for Fonte, who has also been linked with the Merseyside club.
Alternatively, the Saints might decide to hang on to their captain and both Skybet (2/1) and Unibet (5/2) are offering odds on that being the case.
