Five transfers the bookies think will happen

Five transfers the bookies think will happen

Here's who looks set to make a move this January according to the bookmakers.

Fernando Llorente to Chelsea

When rumours first broke of this potential transfer the initial response from many was to laugh, read it again to double-check and then quickly Google Llorente to see if it was definitely THAT Llorente the papers where talking about. However, the rumour soon gathered pace and even 'Sky sources' have confirmed Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is keen to be reunited with the big Spaniard having worked with him during his time at Italian champions Juventus. Admittedly it's gone a bit quiet of late but it's no secret Chelsea are keen to strengthen and a reliable alternative to Diego Costa is near the top of their shopping list and the bookies make it 1/4 that the Swansea man is that option.

Jeffrey Schlupp to West Brom

Premier League winner Schlupp is a veteran of the gossip columns having continually been linked with a move away from Leicester for what feels like decades. First there was the trial at Manchester United in 2013, then there was the 2016 summer saga which involved a transfer request and rejected bids from West Brom.

The latest chapter in Jeff's transfer adventure involved a rejected bid from Crystal Palace earlier this week. Basically, Leicester don't really play him (just one appearance in the Premier League this season), plenty of clubs want to sign him, but Leicester don't really want to sell him.

We're sure the Schlupp saga will keep us on the edge of our seats through to the end of January, when more than likely, either Big Sam or Tony Pulis will panic and end up bidding £20million, only for the transfer to fall through due to a dodgy connection on the fax machine. Bookies make him a 4/6 shot to join the Baggies before February 3rd.

Gerard Deulofeu to AC Milan

Everton boss Ronald Koeman has spent the last few days moaning about the lack of transfer activity at the club since he took over. Indeed, when new owners arrived in the summer, many Toffees fans were expecting an influx of world class players to add to a young and talented but threadbare squad. Instead, they got Yannick Bolasie (out injured until 2018) and Enner Valencia (one goal in 11 appearances so far).

However it appears someone high up listened to the Dutchman's pleas for reinforcements with the Blues clinching the £22million signing of Morgan Schneiderlin from Manchester United to add to the £11million purchase of Ademola Lookman.

With all this in mind, the last thing Evertonians would be expecting would be to lose players this January. But that's exactly what looks likely to be the case with Deulofeu set to join Italian giants AC Milan. The naturally gifted Spaniard has dazzled only fleetingly since arriving at Goodison Park from Barcelona and has only featured on five occasions under Koeman. Although Koeman himself ruled out the 22-year-old leaving the club this January due to injuries, the big money arrival of Lookman looks to have pushed Deulofeu even further down the pecking order. Bookies make Milan 1/4 to end his Merseyside misery before 3rd of February.

Stewart Downing to Crystal Palace

Imagine this if you will. It's January, you've recently been appointed manager of a struggling Premier League team. You've already sorted out the most important issue by giving your best mate Sammy a ring and offering him a job but you're struggling to get your new team to win matches. You've got some money to spend and now you need to go about getting players on board to keep your team in the Premier League. What would you do?

Well if your name is Sam Allardyce you flick through your old contacts book and remember back to those who helped you last time you were in this position. Hence why Crystal Palace are continually linked to players the former England manager has worked with in the past. The latest of which is Middlesbrough's Stewart Downing. Bookies make Palace the 2/7 favourites for his signature.

Carl Jenkinson to Crystal Palace

Let's start with a couple of Carl Jenkinson facts. He is 24-years old (yes 24!) and is an actual England International. There ends the two most interesting things about Carl Jenkinson. Still somehow an Arsenal player, he spent the last couple of seasons on loan at West Ham where he was initially signed by Sam Allardyce.

Only Swansea and Hull have conceded fewer goals than Palace this season in the Premier League and Allardyce has been linked with a £3million move for Jenkinson as he looks for an upgrade from Martin Kelly... Bookmakers are 1/3 for the move to happen before the close of the window.

Palace fans must be thanking their lucky stars that Kevin Nolan is set to be announced as the new manager at Notts County...
