Aston Villa's odds shortening to sign Jordan Rhodes

Jordan Rhodes' rumoured move to Aston Villa looks more and more likely with his odds crashing to make the move to the Midlands.

Aston Villa look to have won the race for Jordan Rhodes in the January transfer window, with themselves and Sheffield Wednesday vying for the Middlesbrough front man's signature this month.

There appeared to be some uncertainty about which promotion-chasing Championship club Rhodes would join, with both Villa and Wednesday around 2/1 only this morning. Aston Villa's odds have been coming in and Wednesday's drifting this afternoon though and SkyBet now think the deal is more than likely at 1/3. Other bookmakers don't seem so sure, with odds of 5/6 in places.

Rhodes has endured a tough season in the Premier League this season, having been replaced in the team by Alvaro Negredo. He has made six appearances but has not started once in the league this season, scoring 0 goals.

That was after helping Middlesbrough to promotion in the second half of last season, scoring 6 goals in 18 appearances following a successful spell with Blackburn.

With the news breaking this morning that Bojan wants to leave Stoke with his most likely destination Middlesbrough and the north-east club also in talks to sign Bamford, that has created an opportunity for Steve Bruce to come in for Rhodes to bolster his attacking options. Villa have only scored 26 goals in the Championship this season and should they harbour any hopes of promotion, Rhodes could be the proven goalscorer they need to make it back to the Premier League.
