Leicester City give backing to boss Claudio Ranieri

The club have released an official statement declaring their 'unwavering support' for the under fire Ranieri.

The "unwavering support" for the manager by the Leicester hierarchy comes amidst a poor run of form that has left the club one point above the relegation zone.

Recent reports and odds movements had suggested that the Italian's position was under scrutiny following a run of only two wins in their last 15 Premier League games.

Talk of Ranieri leaving the club would have been unfathomable before the start of the season, after the huge success of the team last year. No one expected the Foxes to repeat last season's success but few would have expected them to perform quite so badly in recent weeks, naturally putting pressure on the former Chelsea boss.

While the club remains in the Champions League it would have been difficult to see the club take a stance that meant removing Ranieri from his position but this full and robust backing for the manager at this stage wouldn't have been expected either.

A statement from the club reads: "the entire club is and will remain united behind its manager and behind its players".

If Leicester's bad run of form continues though and the club fall into the relegation zone, that resolve could be tested though. That does seem unlikely however; of the current top six, the club only have Arsenal and Liverpool to play in their remaining fixtures, which could see the tide turn in Ranieri's favour.
