Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored a late header as Manchester United beat Southampton to win the EFL Cup.
Ibrahimovic's winner broke Southampton hearts after they had fought back from 2-0 down before the 35-year-old rose unmarked six-yards out to head home.
It was the tale of two strikers as Ibrahimovic and Manolo Gabbiadini scored a brace each, but it was the Swede's header four minutes from time that proved decisive.
It could, and perhaps should have been, so different though. Gabbiadini had a goal controversially disallowed for offside early on as Southampton started brightly. But it was United who broke the deadlock when Ibrahimovic buried a free-kick with just under 20 minutes played before Jesse Lingard double their advantage.
Southampton refused to give in though and Gabbiadini struck either side of half time to pull the Saints back in the game. Claude Puel's team, who had two weeks rest before the final, were the better team in the second half and could have gone ahead when Oriol Romeu hit the post.
Southampton did not concede any goals on their run to the final but let in three at Wembley as Jose Mourinho secured his fourth league cup triumph. A feat that has only been achieved by legendary managers Brian Clough and Sir Alex Ferguson.
