Wenger has this morning rejected claims that Sanchez had a confrontation with team-mates last week.
In Wenger's pre-match press conference for the second leg of Arsenal's Champions League match against Bayern Munich, he rejected claims that the reason for him leaving Sanchez out of the starting line up against Liverpool on Saturday was because of a bust-up between Sanchez and the rest of the players.
Wenger has maintained the decision to leave Sanchez out was a tactical one, with Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck giving the team more of an aerial threat against Liverpool's high press game. Finding themselves 2-0 down at half-time, Wenger was effectively forced to admit his gamble had not worked and brought leading scorer, Sanchez on for the second half.
Sanchez made an immediate difference when he came on and though Arsenal went on to lose the game 3-1, Sanchez's impact is what has caused the questions over Wenger's decision to leave him out over the weekend.
Wenger said in his press conference:
"I’m not aware. Nothing at all,"
"Completely false. But I understand that you have to fill the newspapers and we respect that. And when you don't win the games it is not always down to real stories."
When asked about his relationship with Sanchez and whether the Chilean will be a the club next season, Wenger said:
"My relationship is honest and normal like with every player," says Wenger.
"Alexis Sanchez has 15 months on is contract so the decision will depend on Arsenal Football Club, not on anyone else."
Given that Arsenal's next two matches are an impossible task against Bayern and an FA Cup tie with Lincoln city, if what the Arsenal manager is true about Sanchez's relationship with him and the players is true, it makes his decision to leave him out even more bizarre in what was a critical game in Arsena;'s season in their race for the top four.
