Bookmakers have cut the odds on John Terry playing his football overseas next season.
Following various twitter claims today, bookmakers have cut the odds on Chelsea legend John Terry playing his football abroad next season. Chelsea’s skipper announced on the 17th April that he would be leaving the club at the end of the current campaign having spent twenty seasons at Stamford Bridge. It looks more and more likely that Terry will leave the club as a Premier League champion once again, but questions loom over where his next move will take him.
Premier League clubs such as Bournemouth and West Brom are the early front-runners to capture his signature, but after several murmurings on Twitter this afternoon, bookie have cut the odds on him joining MLS or China. Terry is currently as short as 7/2 to join any MLS club, but many believe after today he’ll favour a move to a non-English speaking nation; he’s currently as short as 6/1 to leave for China.
Former teammate and now Shanghai Shenhua manager, Gus Poyet, expressed this morning that the Chinese Super League would be a “great opportunity” for John Terry next season. The pair played alongside each other before Poyet moved to Tottenham in 2001 and a reunion now looks likely after today’s revelations, coupled with the Shanghai manager’s comments on Terry’s future.
In the last hour, 45% of bets placed have been on the Chelsea captain’s next club being in China. The second most popular option is a possible move to the MLS, and there have also been a number of punts for him either joining one of the Portuguese powerhouses or even a Brazilian club. Whichever club the ex-England skipper chooses it’s likely he’ll want to distance himself from the British media.
