Portsmouth snatched the League Two title on the final day whilst Hartlepool were dramatically relegated.
Portsmouth hammered Cheltenham Town 6-1 at Fratton Park to snatch the League Two title on the final day of the season. Just over three weeks ago one bookie had Portsmouth briefly at a gigantic 200/1 to for the title, but since then a run of four victories in a row was enough to secure them top spot.
The top three places had already been decided going into the final round of fixtures and Portsmouth started the day in 3rd place, but leaders Plymouth could only draw with Grimsby 1-1 and second placed Doncaster lost to Hartlepool.
Hartlepool thought they had beaten the drop as they managed to beat Doncaster 2-1 from behind but a dramatic 89th minute winner for Newport County lifted them two points safe and left Pools fans devastated.
Elsewhere Luton, Exeter, Carlisle and Blackpool finished in the play-off places and will contest for promotion to League One.
