Clairvoyant Oddschecker users fleeced the bookies for four-figure sums on the League 2 outright market.
Portsmouth fans were not the only ones celebrating come 7.30pm on Saturday, we saw a number of chunky wagers at tasty odds on the south-coast side for the title as we approached the climax of the League 2 season.
The biggest of the lot was a solid £100 at 25/1, which landed the punter a monstrous £2.5k. The punter sensed the momentum early and placed the bet shortly after Portsmouth’s 2-1 home win over Cambridge and Doncaster’s away defeat to Wycombe Wanderers in April to move Pompey within 4 points of the table toppers. The next day another punter had a similar idea and took full advantage of the 25/1 still available with a £50 stake, banking a tidy sum of £1,250.
The largest odds we saw taken were when Pompey sat 10 points off the top with five games to go. Just days before a clash with title rivals Plymouth, the side that play at Fratton Park were 40/1 for the league and one of our users saw fit to stick £40 on. They will no doubt be enjoying their £1,600 returns throughout the off-season.
Other notable bets were £20 at 28/1, £15 at 33/1 and £40 at 20/1. Portsmouth accounted for 30.9% of stakes on the League 2 outright market over the last two months and 30.1% of bets.
