Real Madrid beat Malaga to secure La Liga title

Los Blancos crowned Spanish champions for the first time in five years.

Going into the final day of the season, Madrid led Barcelona by three points and therefore needed to earn just a point away at Malaga to secure top spot. Barcelona’s superior goal difference meant that if they failed to do that, The Catalonians would snatch the title, if they were to win at home to Eibar.  Real Madrid were hoping to win their first title in five years whilst Barca were looking to make it three in a row.

Real looked like the more hungry of the two sides, with star man Ronaldo netting after just two minutes. Benzema doubled that lead just after half time and Malaga were unable to respond. However, the match at the Nou Camp was much less straightforward: Eibar took a 2-0 lead, the home side missed some glaring chances, some shocking refereeing took place and eventually Barca came back to win 4-2.

So Real Madrid were crowned La Liga Champions in Malaga and will hope to win the Champions League too, on the 3rd June in Cardiff. Zidane’s men are currently 5/6 favourites to do just that.
