Arsene Wenger signs new deal at Arsenal

The Frenchman will continue his 21-year reign at the Gunners

After months of speculation, it has finally been announced Arsene Wenger will remain Arsenal manager for at least another two seasons.

Following a difficult season both on and off the pitch that saw the Gunners fail to finish in the top 4 for the first time under the Frenchman, Wenger was facing increased animosity from the club’s fans with the ‘Wenger Out’ campaign gathering more and more momentum as the season progressed.

Wednesday’s news that Wenger will be staying at The Emirates will likely split fan opinion but should at least give the club some continuity over what could be a pivotal summer of transfer business.

Much of their plans will hinge on the future of their best players with top-scorer Alexis Sanchez looking likely to leave the club with German giants Bayern Munich even money favourites to sign the Chilean (5/2 to remain at the Emirates this summer). Elsewhere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is odds-on to move to Liverpool whilst rumoured targets Kylian Mbappe and Alexandre Lacazette are all shorter odds to join rival clubs.

Bookmakers make Arsenal sixth favourites at 16/1 to win next season’s Premier League whilst they are as big as 11/10 to reclaim their spot in the top 4. One route back to Champions League football could be the Europa League and some bookies have them as short as 5/1 to emulate Manchester United’s achievements this season (best price 12/1).
