The Chilean forward is now odds-on to move to the blue side of Manchester next season.
Despite Arsene Wenger insisting Alexis Sanchez will not be sold this summer no matter what, rumours of a transfer away from the Emirates have not gone away. At first it was touted that Bayern Munich was his most likely destination but it now seems as if Manchester City are in pole position to sign the forward.
You would forgive Arsenal fans for not taking what Wenger says at face value – he’s been adamant about keeping his main players in the past. Just look at Fabregas, Nasri, Van Persie…the list goes on. Then you might think that surely Wenger won’t sell to a rival. But he also has previous for this. Adebayor, Nasri, Van Persie…
This coupled with the fact City have clear interest in the player means punters have not been shy in backing the outcome. 81.7% of stakes in the last seven days have been placed on Alexis to be playing for his old manager Pep come the end of the window. Odds of 7/1 last week are long gone and the best you can find now is 10/11, being as short as 4/9 in a place.
This question of where Alexis would fit in at City is a fair one. With the likes of Sane, Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, Aguero, Bernardo Silva all on their books, it is difficult to see where the Chilean gets the playing time he would demand. As you’ve seen from his time at Arsenal, he does not like missing the last 2 minutes of a match let alone if he was to be left out of the starting XI. That’s why staying at Arsenal is still a distinct possibility and is priced at 2/1.
Bayern Munich – who signed ex-Arsenal youngster Serge Gnabry yesterday – are believed to have cooled their interest. They are out to 6/1 after previously being as short as 1/4 to sign the South American.
Other possible destinations are Chelsea at 20/1, PSG at 33/1 and if you think he’d be tempted by the wages in China, a move there is also 33/1.
