Everton's spending spree shows no signs of slowing down

Punters believe that more Premier League stars could soon find themselves at Goodison Park.

The Toffee’s have been splashing the cash this summer landing high profile names such as promising young goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and Burnley defender Michael Keane. Given that the club refused to dip their hands into the piggy bank back in the Moyes era, this new era of spending has Everton fans dreaming of success with manager Ronald Koeman showing no signs of ending the splurge.

This morning, Oddschecker witnessed a hefty bet on the Merseysiders signing Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk at odds of 40/1. Van Dijk was expected to move to the red-half of the City earlier this summer but, this morning the bookmakers have slashed the odds on the Dutch defender completing a move to Everton to as short as 6/1. In the last 48-hours, we’ve seen almost three times as many bets for the Dutchman to join the Toffees compared to their rivals.

Purchasing Van Dijk would be a huge statement from the club and would see them boast a formidable defensive pairing of Keane and Van Dijk. Everton’s odds of landing another Premier League superstar were also shortened yesterday as they were slashed from 3/1 to as short as 10/11 to land Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud, implying 52.4% chance of the transfer happening.

As well as being linked with the Frenchman, Everton fans will be excited to read rumours of a move for Celtic striker Moussa Dembele. The former Fulham man was a sensation in Scotland last season and this month he’s been cut from 5/2 to even money to move to the north-west. A homecoming for Wayne Rooney now also looks inevitable as bookmakers have him priced up at 1/25 to return, implying a 96.2% chance.

One man who looks certain be leaving Goodison Park this window is top scorer Romelu Lukaku. Both Chelsea and Man United are keen to secure the big Belgian’s signature with a move possible before the end of this week.

Everton are on the verge of signing some pretty big names, and if they manage to offload Lukaku for a monster fee it will only free up more money to spend. With the big-names being linked, Everton’s fans really must be pinching themselves and daring to dream of a top 4 challenge next season. If they can secure the majority of names they have been linked with, the 12/1 for them to finish in the top four won’t last for long.
