A summer spending spree at the San Siro has seen more and more punters consider AC Milan serious contenders for the Scudetto.
It seems like an age since the days where AC Milan were up there with the world’s best, challenging for major honours. It’s been six seasons since they last won the league, four seasons since they have finished in the top five and three seasons since they have played in Europe. After years of disappointment, the Rossoneri faithful have renewed hope under their new Chinese owners.
Real ambition has been shown in the transfer market so far, with no less than nine players already recruited this summer. The most notable including Lazio captain Lucas Biglia, Ricardo Rodriguez from Wolfsburg, Villarreal centre half Mateo Mussacchio, set-piece specialist Hakan Calhanoglu, 21-year old striker Andre Silva from Porto and their biggest cop to date, six-time Scudetto winner Leonardo Bonucci from Juventus.
The seven-time European Cup winners are far from done yet, with more star names on their hit list. Alvaro Morata and Renato Sanches are the two names linked most recently and both are currently odds-on to make the move to the San Siro. Morata is best odds of 1/5 whilst Renato Sanches is 1/4. Another touted for a move to Italy is Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, priced at odds ranging from 5/2 to 4/1.
This spending spree has sparked punters to get stuck in and since the summer transfer window opened, 64.5% of bets on the Serie A market have been on AC Milan. Available at 18/1 just over a month ago, bookies have been running scared and they are now as short as 6/1 to win their 19th league title. Juventus, who were originally priced at 1/2 for the league, are now available at 4/5 best price and only account for 19.2% of bets despite finishing in first place the last six seasons.
