Taking inspiration from the cricket team, the Lionesses are looking to add another highlight to a memorable summer of sport with victory over in the Netherlands. The bookmakers originally had England priced up at 8/1 to win the Championships before a ball was kicked, but after recording a 100% record en route to the semi-finals with wins against Scotland, Spain, Portugal and France Mark Sampson’s team are now just 13/10 to win the trophy.
England face second-favourites Holland on Thursday after the Dutch defeated Sweden on Saturday night. According to the odds, it looks likely the winners will come from this semi-final with the English public getting their team to progress and lift the trophy.
Since yesterday’s 1-0 win against the French, a massive 61% of bets have been placed on the Lionesses winning the trophy. Their semi-final opponents, Netherlands have been the second most popular pick with punters, accounting for 12% of bets placed.
One bullish Oddschecker user will be paying special attention to the competition in the upcoming days after they placed £275 on England to win the competition at 15/2, just before the Lionesses smashed Scotland 6-0.
Jodie Taylor’s five goals so far this tournament has also put her name into BBC Sport Personality contention, she’s currently best odds 25/1, but she’s as short as 10/1 with other bookmakers. Since her match-winner against France, she’s accounted for 17% of bets, the second most popular pick behind darts legend Phil Taylor.
