One third of bets on the relegation market have been on Villa after mustering just a single point from three games.
Last night’s 2-1 defeat to Reading has left Aston Villa in 23rd place in the championship with just a solitary point. Although they have only played three games out of 46 so far, their abysmal start has persuaded some punters that they may just be in trouble.
Since kick off at the Madejski Stadium, 34.4% of bets on the Championship relegation market have been on the Villains. Burton Albion, who are rock bottom with zero points and hold a -6 goal difference, account for less than half the amount as Villa, with 15.6%. Despite this, you can still get 33/1 on Aston Villa to be relegated, so the bookies are not running for cover just yet.
Before a ball was kicked this season, Steve Bruce’s side were the second most backed team to win the league behind Middlesbrough, with 14.7% of bets. They were the bookies favourites and priced as short as 13/2 outright and 15/8 for promotion. They have now drifted out to 18/1 to top the table and you can get a best price of 9/2 on them to be playing in the Premier League next year.
