72% of punters believe Benitez will be the first sacking of the season following a quiet deadline day.
Mike Ashley publicly announced that Rafa Benitez hasn’t got the luxuries of other clubs just a few weeks ago, and spending will be limited in the Toon’s return to the Premier League. Despite not having the budget to compete with the top clubs, Newcastle still splashed almost £40 million in the transfer window, but the majority of people believe it’s not enough to save Rafa.
The Magpies have taken three points from their opening three fixtures and currently sit 14th in the table, a position they’d be delighted to finish come the end of the season. A 3-0 win against West Ham last weekend saw their odds for relegation go from 2/1 to 4/1. Even with their safety looking a bit more secure, Benitez’s odds to be the first manager to leave have come in from 20/1 to as short as 2/1 this week. Even yesterday morning, Rafa was still 10/1 to be the first to leave his post.
Since midnight on Wednesday, 72% of people have backed Benitez to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post. Frank de Boer and Slaven Bilic still remain the front runners, but with Rafa getting more and more frustrated he could pip the pair.
Oddschecker spokesman, George Elek “Newcastle's win over West Ham saw their Premier League survival bid finally get underway, and one feels like the money for Benitez to leave his post is likely due to the prospect of him walking out rather than being pushed. He has clearly been frustrated by the transfer policy at the club and, considering his reputation in the game, it may not be long until he is looking around for other opportunities.”
