Leicester defender has received twice the bets of any other player to be on the plane to Russia
Harry Maguire has progressed in leaps and bounds since his big summer move to the Foxes and bettors have been quick to back the 24-year old to land a place in England’s 2018 World Cup squad should they qualify for the finals in Russia.
Maguire earned his first call-up for the qualifiers against Malta and Slovakia and punters believe that more could well be in the offing. He is currently a best-priced 2/1 to be on the plane, with the defender receiving double the amount of bets than the next most popular player Dele Alli, who is 1/10.
Elsewhere, Phil Jones is another player receiving activity. Seven percent of all bets placed have been on the United centre-back, who is currently a shade under evens at 4/5 to be in the 23-man squad.
The largest bets placed have been on Jordan Pickford and Nathaniel Chalobah respectively. Both have received a £50 wager from one punter, with Pickford priced up at 4/7 and Chalobah a longer shot at 9/4.
One person however will be eagerly looking at the progress of Trent Alexander-Arnold. A £10 bet placed at the start of August at 33/1 looks promising, as the odds have tumbled to 3/1 on the teenager going to Russia, after regularly playing for Liverpool and making his name on the big stage with that free-kick against Hoffenheim.
