Phil Jones and Nathaniel Chalobah have been the punters' picks this past week to be selected in England's world cup squad.
In what will become a regular series, we study the betting trends of the past weekend to determine which players are being tipped to be selected for England’s World Cup 2018 squad.
Last week we reported that Harry Maguire has been the most backed player to make the competition, and his odds are now as low as 1/2.
In the past week however, following Gareth Southgate’s comments of praise, Phil Jones has seen his stock rise with pundits and he has accounted for over 10% of bets on the market during this time. Whether this will drop off after his not-so-great performance against Stoke for Man United on the weekend remains to be seen.
Jones was 9/4 at the end of August; he is now 1/2.
One of the more interesting outside bets taken in abundance over the past weekend has been that of Watford’s Nathaniel Chalobah.
Chalobah has arguably been Watford’s best player so far and he starred in their dominant victory over Southampton on the weekend, leading to 6% of punters to back him at a price of 9/4.
And after his two goals at the weekend, Danny Welbeck’s odds have also shortened down to 4/5 with some bookmakers.
