The distribution of bets has been largely even up until this point
With Saturday’s fight drawing ever nearer, there has been an increase in the number of bets of Canelo Alvarez to triumph over Gennady Golovkin in their clash for the ages.
Bets have been largely even in the buildup to the fight, with a Golovkin win 47% and a Canelo victory 46%, but in the past week this has shifted, seeing Canelo bets total 56%.
This is perhaps due to an increase in interest surrounding the fight, as it has been long overshadowed by the Mayweather and McGregor extravaganza last month, and punters seem to have seen value in Canelo, favouring the slight underdog with best odds of 13/10. Golovkin has best odds of 7/10.
Interestingly, these odds have hardly fluctuated since the fight was announced. The general consensus is that it will be an extremely close fight, and the only swing thus far has been with the punters this week who backed Canelo.
In comparison, Conor McGregor started as an 8/1 outsider when his fight with Mayweather was announced, before falling to as low as 3/1 on the day of the fight.
