Karanka favourite for Birmingham Job, Carsley most backed

Harry Redknapp's sacking has produced several front runners for the Birmingham City job.

Aitor Karanka leads the bookies’ choice to be the next manager at Birmingham City after Harry Redknapp’s sacking this weekend. Karanka’s impressive campaign with Middlesborough two seasons ago has no doubt influenced this opinion, although the punters have seen it a little differently.

Just over a third of bets placed on the market since Saturday have been on Birmingham caretaker boss Lee Carsley to get the job full time. The second favourite Carsley is currently 2/1 to take the job, and he may well be given a few games to prove his worth as the main man. Expect him to shorten from this if it goes well.

The volume of bets placed on Carsley has been twice as many as the 16% put on Karanka.

Steve Cotterill (3/1) has also received a healthy volume of bets, with 26% of punters convinced he’ll come back to Birmingham after leaving upon Redknapp's arrival earlier this year.

Outside of these three, Nigel Pearson (10/1) and Alan Pardew (16/1) seem to have garnered some interest with punters, with both drawing 5% of total bets on the market, but the short odds for Karanka, Carsley and Cotterill suggest it will be one of them who is designated to resurrect Birmingham’s so far awful campaign.
