Detroit Lions Super Bowl odds cut after strong start

Matthew Stafford has also seen an increase of bets on him for league MVP

The odds have drastically shortened for a Detroit Lions Super Bowl win in February after their dominant display against the New York Giants last night.

The Lions began the season as high as 80/1 with some bookies but after two impressive wins have come down to 25/1.

Matthew Stafford became the highest paid quarterback of all time this past offseason and has shown exactly why he comes with such a high price tag. Although he only threw for 123 yards against the Giants, his poise in the pocket and game awareness was second to none, and he is fast challenging the likes of Brady and Rodgers in a bid to become one of the league’s elite quarterbacks.

Coupled with a more experienced defense this year, the Lions look set to make a playoff run, but despite their fall in odds, punters still haven’t been overly convinced by Detroit.

Just 2% of bets placed on the Super Bowl winner market have been on the Lions, with the Patriots commanding a massive 22% of bets.

Stafford has, however, seen interest from punters for league MVP. He is the most backed player in the last week to win the award, after coming close last season. All time he is still behind rivals Matt Ryan, Jameis Winston and Tom Brady, but expect the hype around Stafford to grow as the season grows.
