Rush of bets on Steve McClaren becoming the next Birmingham City manager

Rush of bets on Steve McClaren becoming the next Birmingham City manager

Former England boss has received a quarter of all bets placed over the last 24 hours

Birmingham City are currently looking for their 4th permanent boss in the last 18 months after sacking Harry Redknapp and a new contender for the St Andrews hot seat has emerged in former England manager Steve McCLaren.

The 56-year old has been working as a coaching assistant at Israeli club Maccabi Tel-Aviv and last experienced Championship football as manager of Derby County. After starting at 16/1, he has come down to 6/1 and a quarter of bets placed in the last 24 hours have gone on the man who achieved major success with FC Twente.

Nigel Adkins is another name that has entered the frame. The former Southampton boss left Sheffield United in the summer of 2016 and would relish a chance at the Championship once again. Adkins is currently 4/1 in places to take over the Blues, but can also be found at 6/1.

A further 25% of bettors have gone for Adkins, who would look to do what he did with the Saints in 2012 when he earned promotion to the Premier League.

Oddschecker Spokesman George Elek: “Sacked Birmingham manager Harry Redknapp never managed to land the England job in his illustrious career, but it seems that the Blues may turn to a man who has lead the Three Lions in former Derby boss Steve McClaren. The bets placed on him have seen the odds tumble, and it looks like this could be a market to keep an eye on in the next few days.”
