The current Serie A leaders have been backed to topple the Old Lady and win their first Italian title since 1990
Maurizio Sarri’s Napoli have started the season in imperious form with five wins from their opening five fixtures whilst scoring a bucket load of goals in the process – 19 to be exact. That incredible start has seen them top the table, but only on goal difference, from the all-conquering Juventus.
Winners of the league for the last six seasons, Juve started the season as a general 4/6 chance to make it a magnificent seven with the Naples club as big as 6/1 before the curtain raiser on August 19th. However, since then Napoli have destroyed all in their path on the domestic front, scoring at least three goals in all of their games to date. That scintillating form has seen bookies slash their odds to as short as 11/8 with one firm with 21/10 currently the best odds on offer.
Punters too have been impressed by what they are seeing from this exciting Napoli team and since they disposed of lowly Benevento 6-0 at the weekend, just under 40% of all bets on the Serie A winners market have been on The Little Donkeys, putting them ahead of their rival Juve on just 21%.
Dries Mertens in particular has started the season with a bang, notching six goals and one assist from just 380 minutes of playing time. That fast start has seen his odds tumble to finish the season with the Capocannoniere – 16/1 into as short as 7/2. The Dutchman is however two behind Juve’s superstar Paulo Dybala who has bagged a goal on average every 47 minutes this season and has eight goals to his name already.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “Napoli are fast becoming one of the most exciting teams to watch in the world, and their brand of slick, passing football is bearing fruits on the pitch. Juventus limped past 10-man Fiorentina last night and there is the feeling that Sarri's men will be there to pick up the pieces should the Old Lady's dominance slip”
Dries Mertens... What have you just done?!
