The former Newcastle midfielder is one of a number of names linked with the League One club
Former Newcastle midfielder Nolberto Solano is one of the early front runners to replace Ady Pennock at League One club Gillingham. The Gills are without a manager after a run of just one win from their opening nine league games that has left then in 22nd place in the table, one point from safety.
Peruvian Solano played for no fewer than seven teams during his time in England and was heavily linked with the job last week, before any announcement surrounding Pennock’s departure was made public. Bookmakers have priced him up as the 10/1 second favourite behind former Leicester manager Micky Adams who leads the way at 8/1.
Other names linked include former Charlton boss Chris Powell (11/1), former Southampton and Scunthorpe manager Nigel Adkins (11/1) and Gillingham legend Andy Hessenthaler at 16/1.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “Solano was a popular figure during his time in England as a player, and Gills fans will be hoping that he can prove a success in the dugout should he land the job. His only coaching experience is in his native Peru, but that isn't stopping punters from backing him to replace the sacked Pennock”
