Nelson attracting admirers in North London and enters the betting for a place in the Three Lions’ squad
Arsenal starlet Reiss Nelson has entered the betting to be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The 17-year old right-winger is fast becoming one of the hottest prospects in world football and started in Arsenal’s 4-2 victory over BATE Borisov on Thursday evening.
One firm make him 12/1, or a perceived 7.1% chance, to be included in the touring party, in a move that would echo Theo Walcott’s selection for the World Cup in 2006.
Neither Walcott or Jack Wilshere have been included in the Three Lions squad for the upcoming games against Slovenia and Lithuania and despite both shining in Arsenal’s Europa League win are as big as 4/1 and 11/2 respectively to be on that plane next summer.
In fact, according to the bookies there is a real chance that Arsenal could not be represented at all in the England squad, with Danny Welbeck the most likely and available at 11/10, less than a 50% chance.
Oddschecker Spokesman George Elek: “It is a sign of the times that the Gunners may not have a single player in Southgate’s squad for next summer’s World Cup. Nelson, however, looks a tremendous prospect and at 12/1 looks set to have a big opportunity to force his way into the reckoning.”
