A look at who is being touted as a possible replacement for Ronald Koeman now he is odds-on to be next to leave.
Another loss for Everton at the weekend – a 1-0 loss at home to Burnley - has heaped more pressure on Ronald Koeman’s already strained position and he is now widely expected to be the next manager to leave in the Premier League. Bookies make him the odds-on favourite, his price ranging from best price 5/6 whilst one firm is as short as 1/3. Although the Dutchman is still in the job, there is a market up for who will be next to take over at Goodison Park.
The early favourite is two-time Champions League winner Carlo Ancelotti. The Italian, recently sacked by German giants Bayern Munich, is believed to be keen to make a return to the Premier League, where he previously led Chelsea to the title back in 2010. Everton fans will be praying the bookies are correct on this one; the Italian manager has been installed as the frontrunner at 6/1.
Next in the market is ex-Everton defender David Unsworth at 8/1. The 43-year-old currently takes charge of the U23s and is the likely choice should the Toffees want to promote from within, should the job become available. Unsworth was briefly the caretaker boss in 2016 after Roberto Martinez was given his marching orders, but has never held a permanent senior managerial position.
Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe is next in line at 10/1. This is Howe’s second spell at the Cherries and he has taken them up from League One and established them as a Premier League side in the last two years. However, there is a feeling he may have taken the club as far as he can and the well thought of coach would find the job difficult to turn down if offered.
Cult hero and current Everton coach Duncan Ferguson is priced at 14/1 despite having no previous managerial experience. A host of Premier League and ex-Premier League managers sit further down the market, the likes of David Wagner, Mark Hughes, Rafa Benitez and Sean Dyche at 18/1. A notable inclusion at bigger odds is ex-boss David Moyes. The Scot is priced at 25/1 to make a return to Merseyside.
Oddschecker spokesman, George Elek: 'There is little surprise to see Ancelotti at the top of the market here after his high profile departure from Bayern Munich and his reported willingness to return to the Premier League. That so many of those in the betting have previous ties to the club maybe serves as a warning of the dearth of options available, although the 18/1 on Sean Dyche catches the eye after his Burnley team left Goodison Park with three points on Monday.'
