The Linnets receive as many bets for the title in 48 hours than they did for the previous month
It’s not often these days that you get former Premier League players plying their trade in Non-League football but that’s exactly what’s happened in the Southern League Premier, as Kings Lynn Town have made the headlines by signing Grant Holt and Simon Lappin.
The two are remembered fondly in Norfolk after their exploits with Norwich City and have returned to the area to help the Linnets’ title challenge and reach the sixth tier of English Football.
Holt scored 68 goals in 154 games for the Canaries and is a member of the club's Hall of Fame, whilst Lappin played 126 times and was a mainstay of the side that achieved back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League.
The pair link up with former Norwich Assistant manager Ian Culverhouse, and since the signings were announced a flurry of bets have come in for a Kings Lynn title win.
In the last 48 hours, The Linnets have received as many bets to win the Southern League Premier as they did in the whole of September. They are currently 4th in the table and fourth in the betting, at 12/1. Third-placed Hereford are 2/1 favourites.
Holt’s and Lappin’s debut could come tonight, as Hitchin come to The Walks. Kings Lynn are unbeaten at home in the league so far, with four wins from five games. They are 14/19 favourites to beat the mid-table side, with the visitors 10/3 outsiders. The draw is priced at 119/40.
Oddschecker Spokesman George Elek: “Local legends Grant Holt and Simon Lappin have brought massive publicity to Kings Lynn Town and with it a flurry of bets for the title. The Linnets have done well in the league before the capture of the duo but this could be the catalyst for a proper title challenge and punters certainly feel the same. Holt started his career in Non-league and should feel right at home. All eyes will be on The Walks tonight for their debuts!”
