The outspoken pundit is now odds-on to take the helm at his beloved Latics.
Reports that Paul Scholes has held talks over the vacant managers job at Boundary Park has seen his odds slashed from 5/1 yesterday to as short as 8/11 this morning.
Scholes, a lifelong Oldham fan who still attends matches, turned down the job in 2015, believing the timing was not right.
However, the Latics look to have made a fresh approach and the former Manchester United midfielder is now the odds-on favourite for the job.
Just a week ago, Scholes was priced at 16/1 for the job (now best price 4/5). In that time, 75.5% of bets through Oddschecker on the Oldham next permanent manager market have been on the 42-year-old Englishman.
Current caretaker Richie Wellens remains in the running should Scholes decline once again, priced next in the market at 6/4.
Other notable candidates touted for the position include Alan Stubbs (6/1), Pablo Correa (14/1), Clarence Seedorf (16/1) and Nicky Butt (22/1).
Oddschecker spokesman, George Elek 'Oldham seem to want to make a statement with their next managerial appointment after Clarence Seedorf was linked to the job, but lifetime Latic Scholes looks a good fit. Having had an interview it would be a surprise if he turned down the job again, hence the odds-on quotes.'
