Pep can’t celebrate just yet as the Citizens have seen it all before
Manchester City are scoring goals for fun in the Premier League, and after an emphatic win over the Potters, Guardiola’s men moved two points clear at the top of the table. Despite Manchester rivals United being within touching distance, City are now as short as 2/5 (4/9 best odds) to win their first Premier League crown since 2013-14. Their odds imply a 71.4% chance of them lifting the trophy come May next year.
The 2/5 quoted by most UK bookmakers is the shortest price on offer at this stage of the season for any club this decade. The only other two years that come close are Chelsea in both 2010 and 2014.
On the 24th October 2010, Chelsea were five points clear of second after nine games and were 4/7 to win the league. The Blues blistering start was all in vain however as they ended up finishing nine points behind the eventual title winners Manchester United.
After the first eight games of the 2014/15 season, Chelsea were again five points clear and were quoted as 8/15 favourites to win the title. This time the Blues did go on to win the league, finishing eight points clear of second placed City.
City fans won’t be getting too carried away as just two seasons ago City were odds-on after eight games of the season but finished 4th whilst last season, they were 6/5 at the same stage of the season but finished a massive 15 points behind the champion Chelsea. Will it be third time lucky…
