Leicester host West Brom at the King Power with the Fixes currently in the bottom three
Leicester have made an indifferent start to the season under Craig Shakespeare with the former Premier League Champions currently occupying the final relegation place after collecting just five points from their seven games played. Admittedly the fixture list hasn’t been kind to the Foxes who have already faced Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United in their opening run of games. But tonight’s home fixture against mid-table West Brom represents a chance for them to kick-start their season.
If they were to fail to beat Tony Pulis’ men, questions must surely start to be asked of the former caretaker manager. Leicester have won just 3 of their last 15 games under Shakespeare’s stewardship, and with the Englishman having overseen an investment of over £75m in the summer, Leicester’s wealthy owners will be expecting a much better return on their money spent.
The owners have shown in the past they are willing to make tough decisions having sacked their title-winning coach less than a year later. And whilst they received a barrage of criticism for that choice, they were vindicated by the club’s strong finish to the season under Shakespeare.
For that alone, Shakespeare will have some credit in the bank and it would be tough to judge Shakespeare and Leicester after just eight games, but if the club has ambitions beyond another relegation battle, the powers that be may determine another change is in the offing.
The vultures are certainly beginning to circle with Shakespeare the second most popular pick in the next manager to leave market over the last 48 hours. Bookies’ favourite Ronald Koeman leads the way with over 35% of bets but Shakespeare is not far behind with a little over 24%.
