Shrewsbury continue to attract bets for League One title

Shrewsbury Town are top of League One but can still be taken at 10/1 to be champions

Shrewsbury continued their impressive start to the League One season with a destructive 4-0 demolition of Bristol Rovers last night, solidifying their place at the top of the table by two points, and punters have taken note.

Since the start of the week, Shrewsbury have been the most backed side to win League One. They've accumulated 36.1% of market bets and only second-placed Wigan have also accounted for over 20%; they have 21.8%.

With favourable odds of 10/1 still available on Shrewsbury, punters have been keen to pile in on them claiming the title. The 10/1 is in stark contrast to their odds at this time last month though, as they could still be taken at best odds of 28/1 despite them also being top at this time, showing the bookies didn’t have much faith in them sustaining.

Unsurprisingly, they were the most backed side in September, with 20.3% of the month's market bets on them, and this trend appears to be continuing.

Wigan are currently favourites at a best price of 11/17, while Shrewsbury and Blackburn are joint-second at 10/1. Expect Shrewsbury to keep dropping if their rich vein of form continues.

Oddschecker spokesman George Elek: "Getting a double figure price about a team as in-form as Shrewsbury has punters in League 1 dreamland. They may not have been fancied by many at the beginning of the season, but their 4-0 demolition of Bristol Rovers shows that their hot streak shows no signs of slowing."
