Bristol City second most backed for EFL Cup glory

Lee Johnson's Bristol City are well fancied in the EFL Cup.

Bristol City are now the Championship’s only representative in the Carabao Cup, after an impressive 4-1 win over Premier League strugglers Crystal Palace. The West Country side have beaten as many Premier League teams this season as Liverpool, and – despite a 3-0 loss to Leeds on the weekend - are generally looking like a tough cookie to crack.

This hasn’t gone unnoticed with Oddschecker users. The Robins are the second most backed team to win the tournament outright since full-time last night, taking 16% of all bets. The only team above them – Man City (who else?). Having beaten Watford, Stoke & Crystal Palace they’ll be a team the big boys will want to avoid in the quarter-finals.

With only Premier League teams left, Lee Johnson’s side can no longer hope for a favourable draw. They’ll take hope from Bradford City & Cardiff City, who both made the final of this competition in 2013 & 2012 respectively. Punters seem to think the 2017/18 EFL Cup will follow suit, and are hoping for a big payout with Bristol City who can be backed a best price of 100/1 here.

The draw for the next round takes place tomorrow night, with the opponents being (arguably) Bournemouth or Leicester. Could Lee Johnson be on the verge of something special at Ashton Gate?

Oddschecker spokesman, George Elek: “There’s an air of optimism around Bristol City this season, and punters are buying into it. It would take a couple of monumental results, but the Robins 100/1 price seems to be too good to resist.”
