Table-topping Blades continue to impress as odds shorten for a Premier League return
What a difference 14 months makes. Sheffield United were near the basement of League One back then, as Chris Wilder struggled originally at the club he is proud to be a fan of. But after guiding the Blades back to the second tier, they are now eyeing back-to-back promotions as they beat Leeds on Friday night to go top of the Championship for the first time since 2005.
United were originally viewed as a 12/1 shot for promotion at the start of the season, but this remarkable run of form Wilder has his side on has seen this price shorten to just 13/5 in places. You can still get a best price of 4/1 for the Blades to go up and punters have been quick to take advantage of this price.
41% of punters have backed United for promotion since Friday night, five times more than any other team. They will stay top of the league until Tuesday at least, as Wolves slipped up away at QPR and now lie in second. They remain odds-on shots for promotion, currently at 8/11.
At the other end of the table, it is a sad state of affairs at Sunderland. They are still without a win at the Stadium of Light in 2017 and time to revert that is fast running out. Yet amazingly, 1% of punters have backed them for promotion this weekend, taken at a massive 250/1!
