Everton's relegation odds hit a new low after defeat at Southampton

125/1 in August, the Toffees are getting heavily backed in the market for a first ever Premier League relegation

It’s dark times indeed in the Blue half of Liverpool. Still without a manager five weeks after dismissing Ronald Koeman, Everton are in a complete tailspin and conceded nine goals in two games after being hammered 4-1 at St Mary’s against a mid-table Southampton.

Fans expected so much after significant investment but it has all gone horribly wrong so far and their odds to go down have never been lower at any point in the season. It was 125/1 in the summer for a first Championship appearance since the 1950s to become a reality, but those odds have tumbled since time has gone on.

Some bookies are as short as 6/1 for Everton to go down, but you can get a best price of 7/1. It is no surprise to see that punters have been quick to put their money on the Blues and this weekend the club have received more bets in the relegation market than every other team put together.

In the new manager market, Martin O’Neill remains a big front-runner and is odds-on favourite, with a 5/4 best price. Marco Silva and Sean Dyche are next in line and 5/1 and 6/1 respectively.

Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “Everton’s season has reached a new low and it looks like they need someone in fast to turn the ship around. The current 6/1 price for relegation is actually bigger than eight other teams’ but punters can’t back them quickly enough for a taste of Championship football for the first time in the Premier League era. If bookies favourite to take over Martin O’Neill does join, he will have a huge job on his hands.”
