The Shakhtar boss is an interesting alternative to current favourite Big Sam.
A new candidate has emerged to take over at Goodison Park as Paulo Fonseca has been slashed from 50/1 to as short 9/2 to get the job in the last 24 hours. It has been over a month since the club sacked Ronald Koeman yet a deal has yet to be struck with a replacement whilst David Unsworth (25/1) remains as caretaker.
Everton have been moving for Marco Silva (12/1) but Watford have rebuffed any approach for their manager. Reports emerged yesterday that talks were re-opened with Sam Allardyce, and he currently sits at the top of the market at 4/11 after being as big as 12/1 on Monday morning. In the last 24 hours, Big Sam has received 54.6% of bets on the market.
However, Allardyce is clearly not first choice and Paulo Fonseca is a manager who is much more in the mould of top target Marco Silva. Both are relatively young, Portuguese and a winner of a non-major European league. Fonseca won a domestic treble with Shakhtar last year, winning the award for best coach in the Ukranian Premier League and it was only 12 days ago that the 44-year-old revealed his intention to manage in England in future.
Fonseca – who speaks fluent English – is now the 7/1 second favourite to take over at the Toffees. He is the second most popular bet on the market in the last day behind Allardyce, accounting for 22.4% of bets. Martin O’Neill, whose odds hit a low of 4/9 to get the job over the weekend, has now drifted out to 10/1.

Allardyce is still the odds-on favourite however and, if he is appointed, would become the 9th of the last 15 Premier League appointments to be British and aged between 50 and 70.'
