Oscar Garcia well backed to become new manager of Nottingham Forest

Garcia hasn’t managed in England since 2014 but a quarter of all bets have gone on the Spaniard.

Nottingham Forest are looking for their fifth permanent manager in four seasons after parting company with Mark Warburton and there have been a number of names already touted to take the City Ground hotseat.

But one surprising name that has entered the fray is Oscar Garcia, the former Brighton and Watford boss who has not managed in the Championship since 2014 and was last at French club Saint-Etienne.

Garcia is currently available at a best price of 8-1 but it appears that some punters maybe in the know about possible events, as a quarter of all bets have gone on Garcia since the news broke on New Years Eve.

The current favourite with bookies is Aitor Karanka, who previously managed Middlesbrough and would welcome a return to Championship football. Garcia’s fellow Spaniard is available at evens amid heavy speculation. 30% of bets have gone on the 44-year old.

Elsewhere, Martin O’Neill is a name linked with what would be an emotional return to a club where he had his best playing years. The Ireland manager is currently 16-1, but not a lot of punters are backing for it to happen: Just 3% of bets have gone on him.

Oddschecker Spokesman George Elek: “There is the usual raft of names that get linked with Championship clubs whenever a job becomes available, but it’s rare to see Oscar Garcia’s name on that list. However, the former Brighton boss has received a surge of bets, as Forest look to improve on last season’s narrow escape from relegation and finish this campaign strongly.”
