Welsh legend Craig Bellamy looks set for Oxford job as bookies slash odds

Bellamy could make his first step into management in League One.

Cardiff-born Craig Bellamy looks set take up his first ever job in football management, as bookies slash odds on him becoming the new Oxford manager.

The 38-year-old is as short as 1/4 for the vacant role - and if punters and bookies are correct – will replace interim boss Derek Fazackerley at the helm.

Accumulating 78 caps for Wales during his time with the national team, the Bluebirds academy coach has been slashed from 33/1 just weeks ago into standalone favourite.

In total, 64% of all bets have been placed on Bellamy becoming the next boss of the League One side.

Interim boss Fazackerley is second-favourite for the job at 5/1, followed by ex-Hibs boss Alan Stubbs at 7/1 and Michael Beale at 14/1

Another Welshman makes up the rest of the candidates in Cameron Toshack at 16/1, with the current Swansea under-23's coach an outside shot.

Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “Oxford have been without a manager for a month now, and have lost five of the six games since, causing nervous fans to hope for an appointment sooner rather than later.

“Bellamy's playing career was never short of passion, and Oxford will be hoping he can jolt them out of their current stupor.”
