Everton is being backed as the next destination for the Man United defender
Manchester United defender Phil Jones is being backed to make a summer transfer switch to Merseyside, with Everton his most popular next destination.
The 26-year-old is attracting a plethora of punting attention in his ‘next club’ market, and all signs point to Big Sam getting his man, according to the British public.
Bookmakers have installed Everton as short price second favourites at 5/2, although that price is trending to go shorter.
In total, 84% of all bets on the centre-back’s next club have been on the Toffees, with early favourites Arsenal not attracting anywhere near the kind of attention Everton are.
A hot topic at Everton, the Toffees splurged £30m on Michael Keane in an attempt to sure up defensively, although the defender has not lived up to his billing.
Jones was handed his Premier League debut by Sam Allardyce whilst at Blackburn, in a 1-1 draw against Chelsea.
Arsenal are favourites at 1/1, followed by Everton at 5/2, with West Ham seemingly in contention at third place 6/1.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek said: “Everton have tried to sort themselves out defensively with the summer signing of Keane, although with mixed results.
“There’s a pre-existing relationship between Big Sam and Jones, with the former giving the centre back his first chance to live up to his – at the time – massive potential.
“Although it could be argued that Jones hasn’t quite hit the heights many thought he would, a fresh chance at Goodison could be the platform he needs to re-establish himself as a top English defender.”
