It's been confirmed Mick McCarthy's time is coming to an end at Ipswich Town.
Danny Cowley is the favourite to take over as next permanent Ipswich manager, following reports Mick McCarthy will step down at the end of the season.
Bookmakers have been quick to price up potential replacements for McCarthy, with the current Lincoln manager leading the market.
Despite Steve McClaren initially being linked with the job, the former-England manager is fourth favourite.
Cowley is the standalone leader of the pack at 9/4, followed by Ipswich cult hero Shefki Kuqi at 7/2 .
Other names being thrown in the ring include ex-Celtic manager Tony Mowbray (4/1), McClaren (5/1) and John McGreal (9/1).
Ipswich owner, Marcus Evans, announced this morning that McCarthy will relinquish the role, after almost six years in charge.
Evans said on Ipswich’s website: “Mick and I had a discussion and we both agreed that this was the best way forward for him and for Ipswich Town.
“It never got to the point where we actually talked about a new contract. It just felt right that it was time for us both to look at different options.”
Evans added: “Mick will see out his contract here and then we will look to make an announcement regarding his successor in due course.”
As outside shots for the job, Maurice Steijn (10/1), Chris Powell (16/1). Steve Cotterrill (18/1) and Uwe Rosler (18/1) round off the betting.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek said: “Ipswich fan may be forgiven for not knowing much about the Cowley brothers, but their work in turning around the fortunes of Lincoln City should not be underestimated.
“A big job beckons, and the Portman Road hot seat would certainly give Danny Cowley a deserved chance at one of English football's most prestigious clubs.”
