Millwall receive Lions share of bets for Championship promotion

The Premier League dream is becoming more of a reality each game for Millwall.

A comfortable 2-0 victory against an in-form Nottingham Forest side extended Millwall’s unbeaten run to thirteen league matches.

Just one point separates Millwall from the play-off places and they are now just 10/1 to finish in the top 6 despite being 125/1 earlier in the season.

It’s an extraordinary run from Neil Harris’ side, especially when you consider they were among the favourites for relegation before a ball was kicked.

In August, they went as short as 15/8 for relegation, implying the bookie offering those odds thought they had a 34.8% chance of going down.

Yet relegation worries are a now a distant memory for fans of the club and up is the only way they are looking.

Just over a month ago, the Lions were available at a massive 300/1 to be promoted to the Premier League.

Those odds have systematically crashed throughout 2018 – their last loss coming on New Years Day – and they are now as short as 33/1 to be playing in England’s top flight next season. 40/1 is the best price currently on offer.

The fans in the Den aren’t the only ones believing – Oddschecker users have been piling in.

Over the last 30 days, Millwall are the most backed team for promotion with just under a quarter of bets (24.6%). When you look at last week that number shoots up to a Lions share of 58.3%.

Oddschecker spokesman, George Elek: ‘Neil Harris has been working wonders since the turn of the year in South-East London and there is no doubt that they are the form side in the Championship, bar maybe Cardiff.

If Millwall can continue this run of results then it’s difficult to envisage them not at least earning a play-off spot.’
