Odds suggest the Scottish champions could look at bolstering their attacking options with World Cup winner.
Atletico Madrid’s announcement that Fernando Torres is to play his last season has led to bookmakers linking the Spanish hitman with the Boys in Green.
With the Spaniard set to leave Spain, bookmakers have thrown a number of clubs from across the world into the hat, including Glasgow Celtic.
Torres was involved in a strange transfer back in 2015 when he moved back the Spanish club after signing for AC Milan a couple of days earlier. Given the striker could yet feature in a Europa League final, he’ll be a mouth-watering prospect for plenty of European teams.
That said, the bookies have made a mega money move the likely option for the Spaniard, pricing a move to any MLS club as the favourite option. Elsewhere, a move to a Chinese club the second favourite.
Looking further down the market, it’s surprising to see Celtic priced up to sign the former Liverpool striker. Even though the Scottish giants are 25/1 to complete the signing, given it’s 6th favourite in the market, there’s a chance of the move happening.
There’s been speculation since the beginning for the season that this could be Moussa Dembele’s last year at Celtic. Which could free up both money and room for Torres to make the shock move.
Sky Bet have priced up a reunion with Rafa Benitez at Newcastle United as a feasible option for the Spaniard.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek said: “A man who was once buoyed by an adoring Anfield's rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone, maybe the passionate Celtic fans can serenade Torres back into goal-scoring form.
“The club do have a knack of bringing struggling talents back to former glories, so the signing of Torres could prove to be a masterstroke under former manager Rodgers.”
