Liverpool legend a popular option with punters since being installed in the market this morning
There’s been many names thrown around to take over at Ipswich since Mick McCarthy confirmed his departure last week but one name has come out of nowhere and is already being well-backed.
Newspaper reports have stated that Steven Gerrard is being considered by owner Marcus Evans for the job after spending the last year honing his skills in Liverpool’s academy.
Since being inserted into the market this morning, his odds have been slashed amongst punters keen to believe that he move will happen.
Starting at 16/1, Gerrard has already been cut to just 8/1, making him fifth favourite in that particular market.
However you can still get a best price of 16/1, which if happenes would be a huge profile appointment for the Suffolk club.
Gerrard has attracted the joint-most best today for the Tractor Boys hot seat, along with long-time market favourite Danny Cowley, who is available at a best price of 11/4.
Elsewhere Alan Pardew has also attracted interest today, with the former West Brom and Palace boss 12/1 with one bookmaker to join Town.
Oddschecker Spokesman George Elek: “Steven Gerrard could be in his first role sooner rather than later if the rumours about him joining Ipswich are to be believed. The Liverpool legend has already been sounded out by MK Dons since retiring but the Suffolk club could be a more attractive proposition for Gerrard and 8/1 is a short price.”
