Mayfield is now the favourite to be drafted first, ahead of Sam Darnold.
Oklahoma Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield is now odds-on favourite to be the first player selected in the NFL Draft tonight (April 26).
Mayfield has overtaken Sam Darnold as the bookmakers’ favourite to be taken in the iconic position, and has had his odds slashed on doing so.
Just yesterday, Mayfield was 12/1 to be the No. 1 pick in the draft, but following intense speculation linking him with a move to the Cleveland Browns, he’s now a whopping 1/2 favourite.
In total, three-quarters of all bets on the No. 1 pick in the last 24 hours have been placed on the contentious star.
He’s taken over perennial favourite Darnold who’s headed up the market since it opened, following numerous reports linking him with the spot.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek said: “One of the biggest surprise moves of this year’s NFL Draft is most certainly the controversial Baker Mayfield.
“There was a debate whether he’d even be selected in the top five following his polarising personality, however, the tables have more than turned in his favour.
“A tremendous amount of punting attention has seen him shift into favourite to be taken first, a surprise to both bookmakers and punters in equal measure.”
