The former Tractor Boys striker is the current favourite with one bookie to take over at Portman Road.
There has been a host of people linked with the vacant Ipswich Town job but there would be no-one more popular to take the role than former striker Shefki Kuqi.
The ‘Flying Finn’, who was famed just as much for his dramatic celebration than his 32 goals in 87 appearances for the Tractor Boys, is currently in his native country after spells managing Pk-35 Vantaa and Inter Turku.
He has already thrown his hat into the ring to become the Ipswich manager, stating that the move would be a ‘dream come true’.
And that dream could well become reality, with the 41-year-old’s odds crashing like one of his celebrations, going from 12/1 yesterday into a best price 2/1 favourite.
Kuqi has also received the largest percentage of bets in this market over the last 24 hours, accounting for 40% of bets placed in that time.
The next most popular choice is the other front-runner at the moment. Paul Cook could well be leading Wigan to the Championship as title winners, but a move to IP1 could still be on the cards. He’s a best price of 5/1 and would be the second manager in the last six years to manage the Latics and the Tractor Boys, the other being Paul Jewell.
Oddschecker Spokesman George Elek: “While his managerial experience may be less than other candidates for the Ipswich job, there’d be a very warm welcome for Shefki Kuqi if he returns to Portman Road after being a huge part of the team under Joe Royle that made consecutive play-off appearances in the mid-00’s.”
