Villa see off Middlesbrough to line up final with Fulham

Despite Downing rattling the bar late on, Villa are on their way to Wembley.

A resilient Aston Villa were good enough to make the play-off final after drawing 0-0 at home to Middlesbrough. Tony Pulis’ side were unable to have a single shot on target, despite having to chase the game after losing the first leg 1-0.

Aston Villa are still the second favourites for promotion at 11/10, despite keeping two clean sheets in both play-off matches.

Fulham are currently priced at 8/11 to prevail at Wembley, after their impressive turnaround against Derby.

Fulham beat Villa 3-1 back in February but it was Villa who beat the London side 2-1 back in October. So with one victory each, it is easy to see why the betting is rather tight.

Oddschecker spokesman George Elek: “Aston Villa have shown they are a very difficult side to break down over the course of the season and especially their two play-off games.

However, if there is a side who are capable of knocking down Villa’s door, it has to be Fulham. With Mitrovic, Sessegnon and Kamara in attack, the stage is set for a cracker at Wembley.”
