Punters expect a season of misery for Man Utd fans

It’s all doom and gloom for the side who finished 2nd in the league last season.

In what has been a summer of sun and jubilation for most English football fans, yet those who support the red team in Manchester have only seen the grey clouds over Old Trafford darken as the season draws closer.

The apathy surrounding Man Utd has manifested from three main sources; a lack of transfer activity, toxic press conferences from the manager and consistently boring and poor performances from their side. The Red Devils only registered one shot on target in their recent friendly with Bayern Munich, along with just 28% possession.

Over the past seven days, Man Utd have accounted for 58.2% of bets to finish outside the top 4. You can still get 5/2 best price they will miss out on the Champions League places whilst some bookies are as short as 15/8.

Meanwhile, following Mourinho’s penchant for throwing his players under the bus in press conferences, complaining about the board and looking genuinely miserable, he has gone from 40/1 to as short as 5/1 to be the first Premier League manager to leave his post.

34.4% of bets on the market have been on Mourinho in the past week. To put this into perspective, the next most bets have been on Claude Puel with 17.3%.  Bookmakers think the likes of Javi Gracia, Mark Hughes and Neil Warnock are all safer from the sack race than the Portuguese is.
