The Terriers lost 3-0 to Chelsea and have the Champions Man City next up.
It was always going to be a tough start for Huddersfield when the fixture list threw up Chelsea and Man City for their first two games, but hope would have been high that the Terriers could show some of their battling qualities from last season to allay any early relegation fears.
As it was, their 3-0 defeat to Chelsea has got alarm bells ringing, with the Blues not breaking sweat in dispatching the hosts, who will need to regroup quickly.
Bookies don’t tend to adjust their odds too early on in any new campaign, but one notable bookmaker has made a difference.
As such, Huddersfield are now 10/11 to go down with bet365, making them just the second team to be odds-on at this stage, the other being newly-promoted side Cardiff City.
A best price on David Wagner’s side is 6/5.
Elsewhere, third-favourites for relegation Watford had a superb result as they beat Brighton 2-0. They are currently 9/4 for relegation, with Brighton themselves 5/2.
Rounding out the top five is Fulham, who had a chastening start to life back in the top flight as they lost 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace. They are 10/3 to go straight back down.
Oddschecker Spokesman George Elek: “While one game is nothing to go by, bookies putting Huddersfield at odds-on to go down is eye-catching. Their game against Cardiff in a few weeks already looks huge in the race to avoid the bottom three.”
While the result may not be a surprise, Huddersfield's performance v Chelsea got a few people talking.
