The 33/1 available on the England boss replacing the under pressure Jose Mourinho is long gone.
Gareth Southgate earned plenty of plaudits this summer for the work he did with England, and the Three Lions boss has been cut from 33/1 to as short as 14/1 to replace Jose Mourinho at Man Utd.
Another loss for the Red Devils under the Special One – their second in as many games - has piled the pressure on the Portuguese and many think it’s a matter of time before he is relieved of his duties. Quite a few bookies are as short as 10/11 that he will be the first manager to leave his post.
This would leave the job at Old Trafford vacant and there would be a plethora of managers fighting for the position. The bookies have slashed the odds on the England manager leaving the international scene for arguably the biggest club job in the country.
Three-time European champion (as manager) Zinedine Zidane remains the favourite at 5/2, whilst there has also been big movement on ex-Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte who is into 6/1 from 14/1.
A host of Premier League managers are also priced up in the market; Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is the most likely according to the bookies at 10/1. Rafa Benitez is 20/1 whilst Eddie Howe and Marco Silva are both 25/1.
Oddschecker spokesman, George Elek: ‘The wheels usually fall off in a Mourinho third season and it looks like history is set to repeat itself and so they would need a replacement.
Gareth Southgate is doing a really exciting job with England and I can’t see him giving that up if United were to come knocking.’
