Watford are causing a stir in the Premier League winner market and to finish in the top four market.
Watford are being heavily backed not only to finish in the top four of the Premier League but to go the distance and unbelievably win it.
Betting patterns on the Hornets achieving the unthinkable are similar to those of Leicester’s 15/16 heroics, with 54% of all bets in the last 24 hours backing Watford to be crowned champions.
Furthermore, a whopping 59% of bets are backing Javi Gracia’s side to qualify for the Champions League, with a top four finish for Watford heavily fancied by punters.
The disparity between bookmakers shows that even traders can’t decide how to price up the Hornets, with the majority of bookmakers cutting them drastically from 1,000/1 into as short as 200/1.
However, one bookmaker who appears to have not learned their lesson from the Foxes triumph and not budged, still offering 1,000/1 on Watford to win the league.
In late September and early October three years ago, bookmakers refused to see Claudio Ranieri’s men as a serious threat to the Premier League hierarchy. In the same time period of the infamous 15/16 season, Leicester were 2000/1 to capture the title, despite their red-hot start to the campaign.
In layman’s terms, bookies actually think it’s more likely that Watford conquers the likes of Man City and Liverpool this campaign than it was for Leicester to win the league in that historic season.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek said: “You would think that bookmakers may now be quick to duck teams who start the season well after failing to react to Leicester's start quick enough.
“Many have, but one bookmaker is sticking to their guns by keeping Watford at 1000/1 despite their 100% record.”
